Almost as striking as the image in this ethereal, symbolist allegory to the Renaissance is this unusual frame that we attribute to the archtect Stanford White who was also known as a frame designer. The image on the canvas is painted to shape of the frame so the two were obviously always together.White and Marcius-Simons were both mutual acquaintances of Theodore Roosevelt. Roosevlet owned several works by Marcius-Simons many of which can be seen at his home, Sagamore Hill, in Oyster Bay, NY. Stanford White was commissioned by Roosevelt to redecorate the White House for his Administration. It is possible that Roosevelt made introductions between the artist and architect.
